MDFr – contributing to the circular economy by recycling MDF

Rapid Innovation has started working with MDF Recovery.

MDF Recovery is a circular economy play and the first technology of its kind in the MDF industry. Every year significant volumes of waste are generated as MDF boards are converted into products such as furniture and shop fittings.  More material enters the waste stream at the end of its first user life. This waste is currently sent to landfill or incinerated.

MDF Recovery’s patented process technology enables the recovery of high-quality wood fibre from waste MDF. It produces wood fibres that are the same high quality as virgin wood fibre. The fibres recovered from this process can be re-integrated back into MDF production or used as feedstock for a variety of high value industrial applications where their use can replace or reduce the use of fossil fuel derived fibres. The process is chemical free and is both more cost efficient and environmentally friendly than the current disposal options.

The company aims to establish the UK’s first commercial scale MDF recycling facility in parallel with the licensing of its technology worldwide.
